Sad day ~ RIP Bramble chicken

Our oldest hen Bramble died today, she'd been fading for a couple of days and was very old so it didn't come as a surprise. She will be missed, first to the door in the morning waiting for breakfast, if you were even a little late she'd be hurling herself at the door to attract attention.

Yes, Bramble could be a little feisty at times, she'd see off the neighbourhood cats with that "raptor" wings out charge that makes you grateful chickens aren't any larger! But she'd also follow me around as I went about garden chores singing away to remind me she would like a tasty morsel to eat.

She was a lovely Mum too, in 2009 she raised a clutch of Sebright bantams for us.

Thank you for the lovely memories Bramble.

Poochs Fish Fingers ~ a review by Miss Darcey Puffle Dog

I have to say that Miss Darcey is a very lucky pup, when her friends go on holiday they bring back gifts.

Cassie and Freddie the Cavalier King Charles Spaniels returned from a trip to Norfolk with baked treats for our Miss Darcey Puffle Dog to try:

Pooch's Fish Fingers, made from white fish, semolina, oats, bran and vegetable oil and hand baked in Norfolk.

According to Pooch's website they are "High in omega 3 which helps with skin and coat quality, cardiovascular / heart health, immune response, cognitive / brain function and join function / mobility."

So what did Miss Darcey Puffle think of her Pooch's Fish Fingers?

Well, as she demolished it in all of 2 seconds, and left not a single crumb, we think she loved it!

Thank you Cassie and Freddie for letting Darcey try Pooch's Fish Fingers.

Why do cats love boxes and bags?

Leave an empty box or bag around in a cat's home and sooner or later he / she will have to investigate it. Felines like our old one eyed Jasper on the left and Lizzie on the right just don't seem to be able to resist the lure of a box or bag. Why?

Well cats love the security of an enclosed space, somewhere they can see from but not be seen. They love the security of knowing that nothing is going to be able to enter from behind or the side. Being in a box or bag makes your cat feel safe and sound.

There's also the added advantage of being a nice warm place to rest in and as all cat owners know cats love to be in the warm.

Silver Pet Prints ~ paw print jewellery in sterling silver

Look what we saw at the dog show this weekend, sterling sliver jewellery featuring your very own pet's paw prints.Thinking this a lovely idea that would certainly appeal to pet owners we decided to find out a little about it to share here on the blog.

You can choose from a range of pendants, charms, cufflinks, necklaces, bracelets and keyrings which will feature your pet's paw print on the front and their name on the back.

Once you've placed an order Silver Pet Prints sends you one of their "Magic Inkless Pet Print Kits" to enable you to take your pet's paw print. Instructions are included and as you can take up to 4 prints it should be relatively easy to get a good print.

You then send the prints off to Silver Pet Prints where they are made into the item of your choice which is then sent to you and voila you have a wonderful, unique to your pet, keepsake.

The lady running the stall at Sunday's dog show was Lucy Baynes she will be attending lots of other events throughout the summer. Lucy's FaceBook page is here  if you'd like to find out more.

(Just a note to say this is NOT a sponsored post, we saw the items & thought we'd share)

First Dog Show

We took Miss Darcey Puffle Dog along to her first dog show today, not to compete but to walk around and get used to all the excitement of being somewhere with a lot of other dogs.

As you can imagine she was rather excited to see so many dogs all together in one place. At one stage she started to bark, but, calmed down fairly quickly when asked to stop.

As well as watching the proceedings she met a few of the competing dogs and although she was somewhat excitable all in all she didn't disgrace herself or us!

It's a good job she wasn't competing really as by the time she'd had a walk around the field and snuffled about in the wet grass she was really quite a soggy pup. Not exactly up to showing standard but so happy to be out and about.

Happy Birthday Miss Darcey Puffle

Today's Darcey's birthday, she's one year old today.

We didn't know her as a tiny puppy as she was re-homed with us when she was 7 months old but photographs show she was adorable.

This is her birthday pressie, Darcey has a habit of destroying toys quite rapidly so we wonder how long Vulcan the Vulture will last. He's a dog plush by Happy Tails reinforced with "chew armor", we'll let you know how well he survives Darcey's attentions in a future review.

7 things about dog hairballs including tips on how to prevent them.

Following my doggy hairball "misadventure" we've been doing a bit of research about them, like you do, here's what we...
